FG Plans Guidelines to Regulate Internet Access for Children Under 16
The Federal Government says it will soon announce guidelines to regulate internet access for children under 16, citing concerns about cyberattacks and harmful online exposure. Education Minister Tunji Alausa disclosed this at the launch of a zero-rated education-platform initiative with the Nigerian Communications Commission. He said free access to learning sites must be limited to credible, safe and curriculum-aligned content. The initiative aims to give students free connectivity to approved academic platforms, helping learners in rural and urban communities access educational materials regardless of their ability to buy data. Lawmakers and education stakeholders also called for wider telecom coverage and stronger support for disadvantaged students.
