Ogun Explores Gateway Air Hajj Flights for South-West Pilgrims
Ogun State is considering using its state-owned Gateway Air to fly pilgrims directly from the Gateway International Airport to Saudi Arabia for Hajj. Governor Dapo Abiodun said the state is also open to a regional arrangement with Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti to pool pilgrims and make the service viable. The proposal follows new rules encouraging greater private-sector participation in Hajj operations. NAHCON said independent operators must have at least 2,000 pilgrims, a threshold most individual South-West states may struggle to meet alone. NAHCON has extended registration for the forthcoming Hajj and is seeking additional slots for Nigerian pilgrims. Airlift operations are expected to begin around late April or early May, while intending pilgrims must also meet new Saudi health-screening requirements.
