13-Year-Old’s Thrown Balcony Statue Kills Tourist: Italian Parents Face Manslaughter Charges
Italian prosecutors have charged the parents of a 13-year-old boy with manslaughter after he allegedly tossed a 4.4-pound onyx statuette from a Naples balcony, according to Italian media reports. The statue struck 30-year-old tourist Chiara Jaconis in the Spanish Quarters on September 15, 2024. She suffered severe brain injuries and later died in hospital. The boy was cleared by a juvenile court, as children under 14 cannot be held criminally liable in Italy. The parents deny any wrongdoing, arguing the statuette was not their property and there is no case against them. A hearing on June 26 will decide whether they should face trial.
