SBM Survey: 67% of Respondents Want Fuel Subsidy Restored as Pump Prices Rise

A new SBM Intelligence survey found that 67.4% of its respondents want the petrol subsidy restored, while 19.2% support the current pricing framework. The survey covered 1,103 eligible voters across 12 states and the FCT, with respondents drawn from all six geopolitical zones. Petrol has become the second-most cited national concern in the survey, behind insecurity. It was the top concern in the Southwest and South-South, while rural respondents and older Nigerians were more likely to list petrol as their main issue. The findings come as petrol prices in Lagos and Abuja have risen to about ₦1,400 to ₦1,450 per litre. SBM noted that the results reflect the views of those surveyed and are not a full projection of national voter sentiment ahead of the 2027 election.
