Catholic Priest Says Traditional Marriage Alone Does Not Permit Cohabitation
1 / 2
A Nigerian Catholic priest has stirred debate over Catholic marriage requirements. He said Catholics should not consider a traditional marriage ceremony sufficient without having their union celebrated by the Church. According to him, Catholic couples who begin living together after only a traditional ceremony are not yet in a valid Church marriage and should complete the required process with their parish. He added that a Church wedding need not be expensive and can be arranged after the necessary preparation, including during a regular Mass.
