Kano Weds 1,500 Couples, Supports Grieving Widower With Home and Pilgrimage

The Kano State Government has solemnised the marriages of 1,500 couples in a mass wedding ceremony held at the Emir’s Palace in Kano. One beneficiary was Haruna Bashir, who lost his wife and six children in a brutal attack earlier this year. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced support for Bashir, including a house in Amana City and sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, to help him rebuild his life. The ceremony was officiated by the Chief Imam of Kano, while Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Governor Yusuf represented the brides and grooms. Each bride will receive ₦200,000 for dowry and small-business support, alongside household items for the new home. The event was the second mass wedding held under the current administration, with similar ceremonies taking place across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
