Suspected Herbal Drink Kills 49, Sickens 170 Across Three Ondo LGAs
A suspected poisonous herbal alcoholic drink known locally as “monkey tail” has reportedly killed 49 people and affected about 170 others in Ondo State. The outbreak began after guests at two naming ceremonies consumed the drink. It later spread to a third local government area. Police have arrested 15 suspects, including the alleged producer. The state government has banned the sale of unverified alcoholic drinks as investigators work with NAFDAC and other agencies to determine the cause.
