Nigeria Leads Africa in Global Responsible AI Index, Climbs to 38th Place
Nigeria has been named the top African country in the second Global Index on Responsible AI (GIRAI), securing a 38th-place global ranking and an overall score of 45.93. This represents a jump of 42 positions since the inaugural 2024 edition, where Nigeria ranked 80th. The index assesses countries on inclusion and diversity, ethics and sustainability, labour and skills, trust and safety, and public-service AI use. The government’s National AI Strategy, the Three Million Technical Talent programme, and strengthened children’s data protections under the Nigeria Data Protection Act helped earn praise. Observers identify Nigeria as a global “Bright Spot” for advancing AI literacy while safeguarding citizens.
