Rapper Jailed for Over 10 Years After XL Bully Kills Elderly Woman
An aspiring rapper was sentenced to ten years and three months in prison after his XL bully dog mauled a 68-year-old woman to death. He had asked the victim, Esther Martin, to care for two adult XL bully dogs and eight puppies while he filmed a music video in London. The fatal attack took place on February 3, 2024, just two days after a ban on the breed came into effect in England and Wales. At trial, the court heard that Ms Martin had limited mobility, no dog-handling experience, and was overwhelmed by the dogs’ size and strength. She suffered dozens of injuries, including a fractured arm, before succumbing to her wounds. The rapper was convicted of owning the dog responsible for her death and cleared of charges involving his girlfriend’s dog. He also admitted carrying a knife at a railway station, claiming it was a prop for his music video. The court rejected his defence, underscoring the legal risks of owning banned breeds without an exemption certificate.
