INTERPOL Apprehends Fugitive in Benin Republic Over Lagos Royal Murders
INTERPOL operatives arrested 38-year-old Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi in a hotel in Cotonou and handed him over to Zone 2 police in Onikan. He had been wanted since February in connection with two high-profile killings. Police say Akanbi is the prime suspect behind the murder of Prince Ademola Akinloye and the killing of Sheriff Ishola Salami in separate, coordinated attacks in Lagos. Investigators also link him to property destruction and commissioning accomplices to carry out the crimes. At a press briefing, AIG Moshood Jimoh confirmed the arrest followed renewed directives from the Inspector-General of Police. Preliminary findings show several accomplices have confessed to acting on Akanbi’s instructions and financing the operations. The police appealed to anyone with information on property losses, attempted murders, or related crimes to come forward. They stressed that with international support and fresh evidence, all suspects will face justice.
