Court Dismisses Mark, Aregbesola’s Objections in ADC Leadership Suit, Awards Gombe N1m

Court Dismisses Mark, Aregbesola’s Objections in ADC Leadership Suit, Awards Gombe N1m

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed objections by the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to Nafiu-Bala Gombe’s bid to amend his leadership suit. Justice Peter Lifu ruled that the objections by Mark and ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola lacked merit. The court allowed Gombe to amend his originating summons and ordered Mark and Aregbesola to pay N500,000 each to Gombe. Gombe, a former ADC deputy national chairman, is challenging the emergence of Mark and Aregbesola as party leaders. He argues that their appointments breached the ADC constitution and the Electoral Act. The defendants maintain that the party’s National Executive Committee validly changed the leadership at a properly convened meeting in July 2025. They may file fresh responses to the amended suit as the case continues.

The court dismissing the objections and awarding Gombe N1m makes this look like a notable procedural setback.

Still, one ruling on objections does not by itself settle the wider leadership contest.

Interested observers should follow the amended suit and subsequent court dates before drawing bigger political conclusions.
