Ruth Kadiri Urges Couples to Keep Weddings Simple and Avoid Debt

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has advised intending couples not to bow to pressure for elaborate weddings. She said large ceremonies can bring financial, mental and emotional strain into a new marriage. Drawing from her experience after seven years of marriage, Kadiri encouraged couples to consider a simple court wedding with a small gathering of close family and friends. She also urged young Nigerians to challenge social expectations around engagements, traditional weddings and white weddings. According to her, marriage should not begin with anxiety, debt or pressure to impress guests.
