Gunmen Kidnap NECO Official, Principal and Four Students in Kogi Exam Centre
On Tuesday around 2pm, gunmen stormed Government Secondary School, Opada-Olowa in Dekina LGA, Kogi State, where Literature-in-English candidates were writing NECO exams. They abducted the principal, an ad hoc NECO supervisor and four students. Witnesses say the attackers fired into the air, scattering exam papers and forcing some students to escape through classroom windows. One student has been rescued so far. Security forces—including soldiers, police, local vigilantes and hunters—have been mobilised for a search-and-rescue operation. Initial findings indicate the remote facility had been closed by the state government but was used as an unauthorised “special” exam centre. Authorities are investigating claims of malpractice and illegal use, and kidnappers have reportedly contacted families to demand ransom.
