Djokovic Explains US Open Exit After Vomiting and Injury Struggles
Novak Djokovic says vomiting, severe cramps and back and shoulder pain contributed to his surprise US Open first-round defeat to Argentina’s Mariano Navone. The Serbian said nausea and vomiting have affected him repeatedly this season. As the four-and-a-half-hour match continued, he said his body began to cramp and shut down, leaving him struggling to move in the closing sets. Navone, ranked 48th, won 7-6 (7/5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. The defeat ended Djokovic’s 78-match streak of Grand Slam first-round victories and dealt a blow to his pursuit of a record 25th major title.
