Nigeria Included in US Two-Year Home Residency Rule for Some Exchange Visitors
Nigeria is among 44 countries listed by the US State Department under its Exchange Visitor Skills List. The rule may require some J-1 exchange visitors to return to Nigeria for two years after their programme before they can apply for permanent residency or change to certain US visa categories. It does not apply to every Nigerian exchange visitor. The requirement applies only when both the visitor’s country and their field of specialised knowledge appear on the relevant Skills List. Applicants should check the official country-specific guidance for their field.
