When Jesus Fed Five Thousand with Five Loaves and Two Fish

After hearing the news, Jesus withdrew by boat to a quiet place. Crowds followed him on foot, and he healed their sick out of compassion. As evening fell, the disciples worried the crowd would go hungry. Jesus replied that they should feed them. All they had were five loaves and two fish. Jesus gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples. Everyone ate and was satisfied. The disciples collected twelve basketfuls of leftovers. This miracle, recorded in the Gospel according to Matthew, shows Jesus’ compassion and power to provide abundantly.
