Anambra Deputy Speaker Okoye Appeals to APGA to Honour His Primary Win

Anambra Deputy Speaker Okoye Appeals to APGA to Honour His Primary Win

Chukwuma Pius Okoye, Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has appealed to the All Progressives Grand Alliance leadership to uphold his victory in the recent party primary. He made the appeal during a strategic meeting with the Obizi Women Association at his Amawbia residence. Okoye described the primary outcome as a forceful subversion of the democratic will of party members. He warned that overriding their mandate could weaken APGA’s position and risk defections ahead of the general election. The deputy speaker reassured his supporters of his continued commitment to APGA and dismissed rumours that he might defect. In response, the Obizi Women Association passed a vote of confidence in his leadership and urged the party to ensure transparency in its primary processes.

What impact do you think Okoye's appeal will have on APGA leadership and grassroots supporters ahead of the elections?

True, his appeal could prompt APGA hierarchy to honour the result and boost supporters' morale ahead of elections.

It seems unusual for a deputy speaker to still need the party's validation after winning a primary outright.

I'm not convinced that appealing directly to party bosses will address the concerns he should have with local stakeholders.

He should engage the Obizi Women Association more deeply to build grassroots support before any further party discussions.
