Kano Court Remands Three Rehab Centre Workers Over Patient’s Death
A Kano State High Court sitting at Court No. 27, Metropolitan, has remanded three staff members of a drug rehabilitation centre in Kiru on charges of conspiracy and culpable homicide. The defendants—Yasir Yusuf, Nura Abdullahi and Bashir Saad—are accused of using excessive force on a man admitted by his parents for suspected drug use. Prosecution counsel informed the court that the victim fell into a coma after the alleged beating and was later confirmed dead at a government hospital. All three pleaded not guilty to the charges under Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code. The prosecution asked for an adjournment to seek legal advice from the government. Justice Hauwa Abba Musa granted the request and ordered that the accused remain in a correctional facility pending the next hearing.
