Oyo Governor Vows Rescue of Oriire Abducted Schoolchildren, Rejects Negotiations
Seyi Makinde has ruled out talks with the gunmen who abducted 39 pupils and seven teachers in Oriire LGA. He assured protesters at the state government house in Ibadan that security agencies are leading a precise rescue mission. The attack on May 15 targeted three schools, and one teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was killed in captivity. Hundreds of demonstrators, led by activist VeryDarkMan, marched through Ibadan demanding the safe return of the victims. Makinde warned that any negotiation would amount to surrendering the state’s authority to criminals. He noted the captives are reportedly held in the old Oyo National Park, whose vast and rugged terrain presents serious operational challenges.
