‘They Wore Army Uniforms’: Ogbomoso Elder Recounts Abduction of 46 Students and Teachers

An elderly resident from Oriire LGA near Ogbomoso describes the attack on several schools on May 15. He says men dressed in army camouflage stormed Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary. They opened fire in classrooms and kidnapped 39 pupils and seven teachers, including his daughter-in-law. A viral video shows her crying while holding a baby. The community had never seen such a large raid. Many children were too young to escape. Witnesses say the attackers rounded them up like cattle and led them away on motorcycles. Rescue teams are still searching. The police say between 25 and 32 people remain unaccounted for. No release date has been announced for the captives.
