Iran Warns It Will Strike Regional Energy Sites if US or Israel Attack Its Power Plants
Iran has threatened to target oil and power infrastructure across the Middle East if its own energy facilities come under attack. Parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that vital regional sites would be considered legitimate targets and “irreversibly destroyed” in retaliation. The statement followed US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to “obliterate” Iranian power plants unless Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s president responded that the waterway remains open to all except those who violate its sovereignty. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Washington and its allies of causing recent shipping disruptions. He insisted insurers, not Iran, fear a conflict sparked by a “war of choice.” The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps added that any energy facilities tied to US interests would also be lawful targets if Iran’s plants were hit. Tehran says its measures affect only vessels linked to its enemies.
