Anambra Reports 742km of Roads Asphalted as Heavy Rains Damage Some Routes
Anambra’s Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Okechukwu Ezeobi, says more than 900 kilometres of roads have been awarded under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, with 742 kilometres fully asphalted. He made the remarks at a press briefing in Awka on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, while responding to concerns about damaged roads across the state. Ezeobi attributed some failures to saturated soil, underground water pressure and unusually heavy rainfall, which he said exceeded the historical data used to design the roads. He named the Nwagu-Agulu to Nnewi stretch and part of the Amawbia-Ekwulobia road among the affected areas. He said repair work will involve removing damaged asphalt, draining trapped water, stabilising the base and relaying the surface. Palliative work is underway, he added, and contractors may be required to fix defects found to result from construction errors.
