Group Urges IGP to Probe Alleged DIG Interference in SFU Case
A Lagos-based human rights group, Nigeria Now, has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to investigate alleged interference by DIG Zango Ibrahim Baba in the affairs of the Special Fraud Unit in Lagos. The group alleged that the DIG pressured the SFU Commissioner of Police, Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo, to query officers over a case withdrawn from court in December 2025 for further investigation. It argued that the CP assumed office after the case was withdrawn and should not be held responsible for earlier decisions. Nigeria Now also claimed that the case involved complaints about the prosecution of a person who allegedly only provided collateral for an N18 million loan and later repaid more than N22 million after the borrower defaulted. The group urged the IGP to independently review the case file and establish the facts. The allegations had not been independently verified at the time of the report.
