Rivers United head coach Finidi George is expecting a difficult test against Sunshine Stars, reports Completesports.com reports.

The Port Harcourt club reclaimed top spot on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table following last weekend’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors.

Finidi’s side will look to maintain their position on the log when they take on Sunshine Stars at the the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode on Wednesday (today).

Finidi believed if his team play to their strength they will win the game.

“For me every game is important. We are here for another important match, it’s not going to be easy but I think if we play to our strength we will have a chance tomorrow. We will take every game as it comes with all seriousness. We are running our own race, we are not looking at what others are doing, just see how we can get the best out of this match,” Finidi said ahead of the game.

“It’s very very good, the confidence level after that win, we knew we had not won for some time and winning that game I think really helped the players to build confidence so coming here will not be anything different.”

Prominent Nigerian entertainers have rallied behind their colleague, Davido, to address the economic challenges Nigerians are enduring under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Music executive Paulo Okoye, rapper Ruggedman, Tiwa Savage, Kiekie, Tacha, and other celebrities voiced their concerns after Davido faced backlash for his comments on Nigeria’s economy.

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that Davido, during an appearance on the ‘Big Homies House’ podcast, urged Black Americans to reconsider relocating to Nigeria due to economic difficulties.

The 32-year-old singer highlighted poor leadership, a high exchange rate, and skyrocketing petroleum prices as significant hindrances.

However, the ‘Timeless’ hitmaker remarks sparked criticism, notably from All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Several celebrities took to social media to defend Davido, highlighting the struggles of ordinary Nigerians with inflation, rising living costs, and an unpredictable business climate.

The truth

Paulo, 57, supported Davido’s comments in an Instagram post on Monday, describing them as a reflection of Nigeria’s harsh realities.

According to him, the challenging economy has driven global companies out of the country and left local businesses grappling with significant losses.

He also emphasised the growing trend of young talents emigrating for better opportunities abroad.

He said: “Please, you all should leave Davido alone, mad people. Davido spoke the truth. Nigeria’s current economic state is so bad.

“With global companies leaving and local businesses facing significant losses, we face challenges. Let’s acknowledge the reality and work towards a better future. God bless Nigeria.”

Too much hardship

Ruggedman, whose real name is Michael Stephens, stressed that the level of hardship in Nigeria has become unbearable for its citizens.

He called on the government to address the situation instead of shifting blame and criticising Davido for his remarks.

“Okay, Davido has said what he said. Moving forward, the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will say such a thing again.

“All this barking all over the place is not fixing the nation. The hardship is too much”, said the ‘Thy Album Come’ hitmaker.

Surviving in Nigeria

Additionally, Tiwa Savage revealed how Nigeria’s economic challenges have negatively affected the entertainment industry and its creative talents.

During her appearance on the ‘Shopping The Sneakers’ podcast on Sunday, the 44-year-old said surviving in the country is hard.

She remarked that the state of the Nigerian economy has essentially transformed celebrities into hustlers.

Tiwa Savage said, “I think Nigeria is, but when you come to Nigeria, you will understand why we breed so many superstars.

“To survive in Nigeria is something else, so the artists that come out of Nigeria are just like hustlers. They are just hustling.”

Double hustle

More so, content creator Oluwabukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, known as KieKie stated that the current economic challenges have forced entertainers to juggle multiple jobs simultaneously.

In a now-deleted post on her Instagram story, KieKie lamented the constant rise in commodity prices, highlighting the daily struggle of increasing costs.

The brand influencer, TV host and actress wrote: “We’ve all doubled our hustle, but it’s not showing because things are ridiculously and unbelievably expensive. May God help us.”

Meanwhile, Reality TV star and entrepreneur Anita Akide, known as Tacha, has announced her decision to relocate to the United Kingdom, citing Nigeria’s worsening economy.

Tacha, who gained fame as a housemate in BBNaija Season 4, shared the news on her X page on Monday.

While she did not specify her departure date, she wrote: “Relocating to the UK so help me God.”

The celebrities mentioned are not the first to criticise Nigeria’s worsening hardships and dire economic situation.

In February, this newspaper reported that veteran Yoruba actor Ebun Oloyede, known as Olaiya Igwe, who went naked to campaign for Mr Tinubu, expressed concern about the country’s growing struggles.

Olaiya, 66, a staunch APC supporter, urged Mr Tinubu to tackle the widespread hunger and address the lack of positive changes Nigerians had been anticipating under his leadership.

Olaiya’s outcry over the economic challenges was preceded by that of Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as Kwam 1, another ardent supporter of Mr Tinubu, who also called for urgent action to alleviate the nation’s hardships and insecurity.

In February, Kwam 1 lamented the worsening conditions Nigerians have faced since Mr Tinubu assumed office.

He urged the President to fulfil the promises of good governance made during his campaign and respond to the cries of citizens, emphasising their widespread suffering.

As of press time, Davido has responded to criticisms of his remark about the economic situation.

On Monday’s X page, the singer wrote, “God bless Nigeria.”

Many of the proverbs, mantra, idioms, attruisms, figures of speech, riddles or parables, of the philosophies of the wisemen and their gods or ancestors, are factual — They were saying facts of life, times and things, which in were able to make hearers wise, equipped, and empowered to successfully navigate the pitfalls and problems of life, times and things. People use them because they relate with facts, evidence and they apply better to life, to times and to things.

So, if the Lord will reform us from them, I do not suppose He will force us to deny their facts, evidence or well applied allegory: — Forcing us to throw them away when they are still very relevant and applicable to life, times and things around us, is like having a tree of knowledge of good and evil that is able to make one wise nearby, and the Lord forbidding us from eating of the tree. It's also like having an object that is red in color, but forcing us to not say it's red (because the proverbs of men say it's red), but to say it's white or blue.

Some were taught not to confess negative facts or confessions, but only confess positive expectations and confess what they want to see instead of what is factual or evident now. For example, if any of them is sick and even dying, he would tell people, “I am strong or healed;” or if he is lacking money, poor or in need of money, he will say, “I am rich.” That's deception. Faith is not positivity or positive confessions triumphing over negative facts or refusing to admit unfortunate or unpleasant evidences that are manifest.

There's no application of faith that denies anything: If you find what looks like faith denying anything negative or positive, then it's not true faith: — True Faith may refuse things, but true faith never denies things. Refusal is not denial in faith: —Expedience makes faith refuse or prioritize things — though faith believes in all possibilities, but yet the faith follows Expedience.

(1 Corinthians 10:23) — "All things are lawful (possible by faith) for me, but all things are not expedient (priority to faith): all things are lawful (in faith) for me, but all things do not edify (the faith)."

God calls those things that are not as though they were, but God does not deny those things that were are though they were not. Even so, your faith should not deny the evidence or facts of things that are, but your faith should see beyond the evidence of things that are into being substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen, but having the higher expedience or priority in the faith.

Therefore, though we walk by faith and not by sight, we still need/use our sight for our faith. You only need to grow beyond the levels of human sights, to walk in the realms of true faith — for the just shall shall live by faith, not by sight only. And those proverbs and wise sayings of men are applicable facts and useful evidences as far as the sights and sounds of men matter in life, times and things. Whereas, they do not matter or apply, except in opposition, as far as true faith, spiritual, eternal, visions and voices, matter.

HOW HE WILL DEFEAT THE PROVERBS & WISE SAYINGS OF MEN

There was a time I tried to defeat a saying among Christians around me, by enforcing some sanctions on anyone who used that saying (which is a title) around me. I made mistake in doing so, because I was forcing it on them or cutting them off whenever they use that title — so I repented from forcing anyone not to use that title, especially when they still see wisdom, logic or pleasure, in still using the title.

The title I speak of is calling any man “Father in the Lord, spiritual father, reverend father etc.”

I was using force or sanction to get back at those who still have their reasons for calling their pastors or spiritual leaders their father or daddy, but now I use defeating of the wisdom, facts, logic or evidence, in their use of such titles to turn them into foolishness so that they may see how foolish they are in calling a man of God their father or spiritual father.

And yet, it's not easy to make a leopard change its spots. A man can remove a swine (pig) out of the dirt, but hardly remove the dirt out of the swine's (pig's) mindset and desires. If it's that easy, one could have made Muslims to throw away everything they held about Mohammad, Quran, Islam, hadiths, five pillars of Islam, Muslims prayer rosary etc, into the trash can or dustbin, set them all ablaze with fire, and then repent and be converted into the truth and eternal life in the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. If it's that easy, one could have made the Roman Catholics to set ablaze with fire all the idols of saints and angels around them, and rest from reciting “Hail Mary full of grace… pray for us sinners now to the hour of our death” – for it's no longer sounding like a salutation but a curse.

How would the LORD defeat that saying in Israel that is not of the LORD?

[Ezekiel 12:23 GWN] — ""Tell the people, 'This is what the Almighty LORD says: I will put a stop to the use of this proverb. You will no longer quote it in Israel.' Instead, tell them, 'The time is near when every vision will come true."

In this Main Bible verse in Red, the LORD instructed His prophet to prophesy He would put an end to that proverb or wise saying in Israel, and He also instructed the prophet to prophesy the change in time and seasons that defeats the said proverb.

This means, He did not defeat the proverb in Israel by forcing people not to say or use it, as a law forbidding the use of such Proverbs — No. Rather, He defeated the facts, evidence, wisdom, logic, relevance or application, of the Proverb by changing the Times from “Time Prolonged” to “Time is at hand.”

The Lord Jesus Christ, in His preaching and teaching, presented both change in Time and the Reality/Revelation of His Messages/visions. He presented the Kingdom of God “At hand or in the present time,” not just as in future time. He used terms like, the days are coming and already here now in present etc, — to eliminate prolonged time from His messages, so that all His messages were in all times in their appointed time. Behold, now is the appointed time, today is the day of salvation: — so that, even if His visions and messages may not cross over to you in your realm at this time, you may cross over to Realms where you may now experience His visions and messages at this time before they Manifest on earth. So, before they are done on earth in future, they are already done and happening now in heaven to whoever shall be with Him in paradise today or now. What He told you will happen, is already happening.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the arrest and prosecution of Ndukwe Ayansi and five others for allegedly stealing materials meant for the state Ministry of Health.

This was revealed on Sunday in a press statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, and shared with Channels Television.

According to Uzor, the governor was on his way to inspect ongoing projects when he saw a Toyota mini truck being loaded with registers, books, and other materials from the warehouse of the Ministry of Health. The warehouse is located at Ochudo Centenary City in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The governor stopped to ask questions but was not satisfied with the answers he got. After looking into the situation further, he discovered that patient data registers, cards, and other important documents were being packed into the vehicle.

He called the act sabotage against the government’s efforts to improve the health sector, explaining that the documents had been sold without proper approval.

“You are selling government documents without approval on a Saturday afternoon,” the governor said.

“Our hospitals in the rural areas are requesting for registers and data entry forms and hospital cards. Sadly, the ones the government has produced are being sold by you.”

The suspects have been arrested by the police, and investigations are ongoing.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti says his government has resolved to rejig the security architecture of the State, aiming to address escalated attacks on security personnel in the State, even as the Chief Executive said his government has decided to smoke out criminal elements jeopardizing the security of lives and property, ABN TV reports.

Addressing the press after an emergency security council meeting the governor said with actions being put in place, insecurity will be a thing of the past in Abia.

"We have all sat down to look at the security architecture of the State and I am happy that we have resolved to rejig the security architecture to ensure that something like these (attacks) will be a thing of the past.

"We also have taken a decision to smoke out all the criminal elements from wherever they are hiding.

"We are happy to assure you that we can deal with them accordingly. We have the commitment of the security agencies.

"We have also agreed to redouble our efforts in various areas where there are possibilities of attacks", a statement by a Government House Press officer, Divine Nwankwo said.

The Governor warned criminal elements sternly that Abia would not be safe for them.

"We want to give a notice. If you are a criminal in Abia State, whether you call yourself bandit or kidnapper, whatever you call yourself, this place will not be safe for you. So that is the warning". Gov. Otti declared.

The Chief Security Officer of the State, who said that the recent unfortunate attacks should not be taken as the current situation in Abia reassured Abia people, residents and visitors that the government is more than competent to deal with security challenges in the State.

He said he would not want anybody to be afraid assuring that the government would do everything possible to ensure the safety of lives and property of everyone living or visiting Abia State

Governor Alex Otti commiserated with the Nigeria Army and Nigeria Police on the unfortunate incidents and attack on their men at Ekenobizi, Ubakala and Ohafia and assured that such would not repeat itself and added that he would visit the families of the deceased.

Otti To Rejig Abia Security Architecture, Vows To Give Criminal Elements Run

Apapa, Lagos – An attempted smuggling operation involving unprocessed timber valued at $296,000 was thwarted by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at the barge area of Apapa Port on October 11, 2024. Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team from the Lilypond Export Command and the Customs Intelligence Unit intercepted 11 containers of contraband destined for export.

Jibola Odusanya, Area Controller for the NCS, revealed that the confiscated goods comprised rough and sawn timber concealed within 20-foot containers. “We successfully intercepted 11 units of fully laden containers containing unprocessed timber. The estimated market value of the consignment stands at $295,944,” Odusanya explained.

The operation was conducted in strict adherence to the provisions of Schedule 6 of the Common External Tariff, which prohibits the export of certain unprocessed woods. Sections 148, 149, and 150 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 were cited as the legal basis for classifying the containers as formal seizures.

As I was coming back late in the night along Berger in Lagos, a boy was trying to help me get a vehicle and he later stop a personal car but the driver said the car is his personal car and within 2 minutes, 2 young guys wearing black shirts with rough hair entered as passengers. Within some minutes, another 2 guys squeezed themselves inside and they are all young with rough dressing.

I was at the front and I jumped down immediately before it moved but they were persuading me to enter but I refuse and entered the next car.

How can 4 young guys on black shirts with rough tattered clothes entered same bus. One was with a school bag and I suspected them.

There supposed to be at least, a woman and old person. 

I hope I did the right thing guys by jumping down from the car?

> The absence of Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja has stalled a N50 billion suit filed by leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, against the Federal Government.

The matter, which was fixed for Monday, could not proceed because Justice Ekwo was on official engagement. The judge was said to be sitting in another division of the court.

He wants the court to determine “whether the way in which he was abducted in Kenya and extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria is consistent with extant laws”.

I have been separated from my wife for 2 years now and my two daughters age 8 and 7yrs had been with my ex wife ever since. It has gotten to the stage that she is now using the kids to get back at me by denying me access to them and also manipulate me, the greatest mistake I made was letting her took my kids away cos at that time I was emotionally down due to what lead to us separating and couldn't make a sound judgement at the moment.

Now my decision now is that I want to take custody of my daughters, for now I have my mom with me and also myself to take care of them while they are with me, all I just need is what are the prons and cons of being a single father and taking care of your kids as the man alone. what challenging's will I face in doing this so I can prepare my mind mentally and psychologically for the challenge ahead. Though I prefer the kids being with their mom and I take responsibility but the fact that she is using them to get back at me is annoying and frustrating reason why I want to make this move now so am going to be free from her manipulation.

THE CONVENER
Paul Adefarasin is a Christian Minister, Thought-Leader, Philanthropist, Author, Speaker and Convener of the internationally acclaimed Experience concert held in December. He is the Founder of The House On The Rock, a multiracial, multi-ethnic, and multifaceted non-denominational Church with 77 parishes and fellowships across Africa and Europe.

With more than 30 years of pastoral and visionary leadership experience, Paul is sought after to share his expertise across many sectors. For upwards of 20 years, he has hosted the programme ‘Something Is About To Happen’, which airs across Africa, Europe, and North America on terrestrial and satellite television. He also maintains an active social media presence.
