> Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the payment of gratuities owed to pensioners since 2012, a move many say will address the long-standing plight of retired civil servants in the state.

In a statement on Monday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the state government has commenced the disbursement of N1 billion as the first batch of payments, fulfilling a commitment to clear the backlog inherited from previous administrations.

Okpebholo emphasised his administration’s resolve to prioritise the welfare of retired civil servants who have dedicated their years of service to the state.

The statement added, “For over a decade, many of our retirees have suffered due to the non-payment of their gratuities. This administration is putting an end to that hardship.

“I have approved the release of N1 billion for the first phase of payments, and we will not rest until all outstanding entitlements are cleared.”

The governor reiterated that his administration is committed to restoring the dignity of pensioners by ensuring that they receive their due benefits without further delay.

“We recognise the sacrifices made by our retirees, and it is unacceptable that they have had to wait this long for what is rightfully theirs.

“Our administration will not only clear these arrears but will also put measures in place to ensure such delays do not happen in the future,” Okpebholo stated.

He reaffirmed that his administration’s goal is to clear all outstanding gratuities in phases, ensuring that retirees enjoy the fruits of their labour.

The governor further assured that the disbursement process would be transparent and fair, with pensioners receiving payments in batches based on a structured verification process.

“This is just the beginning. We will not abandon our pensioners. We are determined to ensure that those who served Edo State diligently are treated with the respect and care they deserve,” the governor said.

> Twenty-one governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have met with former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna and begged him not to dump President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party that made him president ahead of the 2027 elections.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the APC governors met former President Buhari in his newly remodelled Kaduna residence in a closed-door meeting where they begged him not to support the opposition coalition championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi, among others.

One of the sources told our correspondent: “The meeting of APC governors was basically to plead and beg former President Muhammadu Buhari to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. You know the opposition coalition is gathering momentum, and many former President Buhari’s allies are heading to the coalition to challenge Tinubu’s second-term ambition.”

Recall that former Kaduna state governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, one of Buhari’s closest allies, had revealed that he got the blessing and prayers of ex-President Buhari before his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to Social Democratic Party, SDP.

However, speaking with journalists after the meeting, Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma described Buhari as a father in politics.

“We came to pay former President Muhammadu Buhari a courtesy visit. You know former President Muhammadu Buhari is the only former president produced by the APC.

“We came and saw him in good health. We fraternised with him, stayed with him and are ready to return to our various businesses.

“We met with him, and he was pleased with our party. He expressed surprise at our visit. We are happy and thankful to Almighty God because we met him in good health. He is our father in politics. He is well pleased with our party and all of us, his children. He is well pleased with our visit.”

Describing the APC as the biggest party in Africa, he said its members would continue to work hard to make it stronger.

For his part, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani commended former President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC.

“We are here along with other APC governors to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari. We are happy the way former President Buhari is supporting our party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Sani said.

The APC governors were said to have pleaded with former President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) elements within the APC to leave the party and join the coalition movement.

A source told LEADERSHIP that the governors, at their meeting with Buhari, appealed to him not to abandon President Tinubu.

They recalled how Tinubu supported Buhari for the eight years.

It was further learnt that the governors resolved to facilitate a meeting between the CPC elements and President Tinubu to assuage their concerns.

LEADERSHIP recalls that former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai revealed that he cleared with Buhari before he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but Buhari has since dismissed insinuations that he would dump the APC for the SDP.

A recent study reveals that ERP systems, including SAP, are more vulnerable to insider attacks

The recent Data breach report by IBM reveals that malicious insiders are equally liable for the data breaches. Many of us think that stolen or compromised credentials are the primary or the most common cause of a data breach.
It is also evident that Insider attacks by these malicious insiders are most common across the ERP systems and pose a potential threat to the organization’s key assets, i.e., data. Here are a few facts:
6 out of 10 data thefts in the past 3 years are by malicious insider attacks, while only 4 are by external threats. 
Nearly half of all data breaches happen in the cloud. It cost $4.24M loss on average for organizations that are on private clouds and $5.02M for organizations in public clouds.
According to the “Insider Threat Report 2022”, insider attacks are a much more significant threat. As far as the security of SAP systems is concerned, insider attacks are by far the greatest problem.
Identifying a malicious insider attacks is a tougher task than an external event

Unstructured Authorizations are the Primary Culprits
Many of the insider attacks are by employees who cause problems either intentionally, unintentionally, or by mistake. A recent study reveals that the main reason for unintended security incidents was that the authorizations were granted too generously (Wider authorizations). 
This is a common issue in SAP systems where roles and authorizations are developed ad-hoc and from time to time they are piled up. With the complexity of an ERP system, it is easier for administrators – who do not necessarily have the expertise required to appropriately restrict authorizations – to assign authorizations by way of general role descriptions. This gives wider authorizations. 
Secondly, not auditing the system for non-Dialog users such as communication, system, or service. Malicious insider attacks typically target these IDs, which usually have broader authorizations. It is therefore vital to audit them periodically and set up processes to utilize them correctly.
Third on the list of reasons for security problems is the complexity of the relevant systems. A new way of working has been introduced by Industry 4.0. This is the age of systems communicating with one another. Furthermore, SAP AG acquired many products, including S/4 HANA, C/4 HANA, the SAP Cloud Platform, SAP Ariba, SAP Success Factors, etc. It is crucial to secure not only the systems but also the interfaces since these systems are interconnected. There is a high level of vulnerability in cloud-based systems as well, as previously mentioned.
The latest IBM report indicates that cloud systems are equally vulnerable to attacks. It has been estimated that 45% of breaches have happened in the cloud.

A classic problem is an employee who moves from one department to the other in his employment tenure effect. An employee, who spends some time in one department or a position will only request new access when he moves to the other. This leaves the old authorizations intact and collectively, he may get more access than required. In simply called Accumulated authorizations.

Job-based Role:
A job-based role is typically a composite role or a business role that contains a group of single roles derived from a task. In simple terms, these roles contain all necessary authorizations to perform a user’s duties.
Task-Based Role:
Task-based roles are those that provide authorizations to a specific task. For easier management, these are further derived at the business process level, and at the subprocess level. An example would be an Asset Acquisition – Asset Management role. Single-role designs for the most part do not pose Segregation of Duty risks and make individual roles risk-free.

Niger’s military-led government has declared Hausa as the country’s new national language, replacing French, in another decisive step away from its former colonial power, France.

“The national language is Hausa” while “the working languages are English and French,” the junta stated in a new charter published on March 31 in a special edition of the government’s official journal.

Hausa is Niger’s most widely spoken language, particularly prevalent in the regions of Zinder, Maradi, and Tahoua. 

The language is understood and spoken by a large portion of the population in the country of 26 million.

By contrast, French is spoken by only about 13 per cent of Nigeriens — roughly three million people.

According to the new charter, nine other local languages, including Zarma-Songhay, Fula, Kanuri, Gourmanche, and Arabic, will now be officially recognised as “the spoken languages of Niger.”

The charter emerged from a national conference held in February, which bolstered the ruling junta’s authority and granted its leader, General Abdourahamane Tiani, the mandate to remain in power for the next five years.

Since seizing power in a July 2023 coup that ousted civilian president Mohamed Bazoum, Niger’s ruling junta has cut diplomatic ties with Paris, expelled French troops, and renamed streets and landmarks that once carried French names.

This latest move aligns Niger with neighbouring military regimes in Mali and Burkina Faso — also former French colonies — who have similarly distanced themselves from France and withdrawn from the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), a post-colonial body similar to the Common wealth.

In a statement by its spokesperson Tuesday, Emma Powerful, IPOB alleged that the Nigerian military has historically exhibited ethnic bias, often sending recruits from the South to dangerous zones dominated by terrorist groups such as Boko Haram.

The group advised youths in the region to return home and pursue farming or other productive ventures instead of enlisting in a system it claims has consistently marginalised soldiers from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

The statement partly read, “The global family of IPOB once more urges Biafran youths to refrain from joining the recent Nigerian Army recruitment. Before considering joining the Nigerian Army, reflect on this: ‘What has happened to those who enlisted a few years back?’ You might be astonished that numerous individuals have fallen victim to the Boko Haram violence and other terrorist organisations’ acts in the North.

“We have witnessed viral clips and reports about Nigerian soldiers fighting insurgency in the North expressing grievances over insufficient allowances, food, medical care, and equipment. These Nigerian soldiers are exploited as scapegoats in the terrorism dealings between Nigerian politicians and their Western allies.

“We also possess documentation of military barracks and police stations in Northern Nigeria being taken over by terrorists. In exchange, the Federal Government and its deadly military compensate the terrorists responsible for killing the unaware soldiers with cash, employment, and scholarships under the guise of repentant terrorists, officially incorporating them into their security forces. Unknowingly, numerous young individuals have perished in battles fueled by ongoing sponsored insurgencies.

“No Biafran youth ought to position themselves as instruments for the Federal Government, ECOWAS, and Western imperialists to be deployed against the Sahel Nations. Any Igbo youth who enlists in the Nigerian Army, ‘your name will be regrettable’. You will either be offered up to the terrorists, captured and killed by the state, or be sacrificed to the courageous Sahelian soldiers.”

Speaking further, Powerful urged the region’s young people to reconsider their choices, highlighting what he described as a history of neglect, betrayal, and ethnic bias against Igbo soldiers.

He appealed to a deep sense of identity and survival, urging a return to traditional livelihoods.

He added, “In any case, you will either be killed or left with debilitating injuries. If you succeed in coming back alive, you will return in disgrace without any advantages from the Nigerian Army. Inquire of those involved in proxy wars whether they received compensation.

“Rather than joining the Nigerian Army, return to your village and pursue farming. Nigerians have consistently been unfair to their soldiers from various ethnic backgrounds.

“Simply envision your destiny as an Igbo warrior. As an indigenous Igbo individual, your achievement is seen as a risk to the Nigerian state. Your struggle against insurgency will be perceived as a conflict with the North.

“Consider this: where are the many brave young Igbo individuals who enlisted in the Nigerian Army since 2020? Numerous individuals have departed, while others are imprisoned by the Nigerian Army for seeking equality. “Be of service to Nigeria as an Igbo individual and return in disgrace.”

In Delta State, many leaders within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are becoming increasingly disillusioned with a political system that revolves around one individual’s selfish agenda. They have been left without any significant opportunities, not even basic contracts, which has led many to seek refuge in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the coming days, it will become evident what I’m saying. When a leader is self-centered, prioritizing personal gain over the collective good, those who once supported the cause will eventually abandon it and seek a better path.

Who are you fooling? A leader should empower their supporters, giving them opportunities to earn and grow. This reminds me of a quote attributed to John F. Kennedy, where he suggested that the government should employ citizens to dig ditches while others cover them, just to keep them employed and fed. It’s a metaphor that speaks to the importance of providing opportunities, not just empty promises.

No one can remain loyal on an empty stomach.

I sympathize with those who continue to voice their grievances about their governor, who earns three times what Okowa earned during his tenure, yet there is no sign of progress. The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has been reduced to zero, and many other initiatives are at a complete standstill.

Politicians often fail to grasp the dynamics of political patronage in a capitalist democracy. It’s about giving people the tools they need to succeed, not hoarding power for oneself.

In the APC, we have learned from past mistakes. It’s clear that only those living in George Orwell’s Animal Farm would continue to chant praises for a system that’s no longer working. A quick read of Animal Farm reveals how those who cling to power for power’s sake ultimately lose sight of the people they were meant to serve.

Baba Frayo, a true Isoko man, wisely said, "I want to throw a stone, and whoever it hits will know."

The politics of greed will always falter. As Wole Soyinka once said, “When the people are chased to the wall, they bounce back.”

With that, I extend a warm welcome to Alawei Kingsley Otuaro as he joins the APC. May his leadership bring a new dawn for the people of Delta State.

Ex-Minister Ekumankama Celebrates Mother on Her 75th Birthday 

Former Minister of State Health Barr Joseph Ekumankama and his siblings have celebrated their mother, Elder Mrs Grace Ekumankama, on her 75th birthday. 

A special thanksgiving service was held in her honour at the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Abakaliki, while the reception was held at A Real Exclusive Palace in Abakaliki. 

It was indeed a beautiful and intimate moment for the family as they ensured that their mother was surrounded by her beloved children, grandchildren and family members.

Speaking with journalists, Ekumankama described his mother as a wonderful woman with high moral standards.

Extolling the virtues of his mother, the former minister acknowledged the remarkable roles she had played in instilling good virtues in him and his siblings, saying that her good home bringing has helped them become impactful to the society. 

"She is a wonderful woman; you can attest to the testimonies from her grandchildren. For a grandchild to know that the discipline, the culture, and the moral values that the parents are instilling in them are by virtue of the good moral values that their parents also instilled in them is to tell you the quality and the character of the woman that she is." Ekumankama said.

The ex-minister used the occasion to charge parents to instil good virtues in their children as they grow up in order to have a safe society.

He emphasised the need for Christian mothers to ensure they instil good Christian values in their children and build a character that would avoid any form of criminality and create insecurity in the society.

"The problem we have today in Nigerian society is the lack of good Christian upbringing; if you train a child in the ways of the Lord, he will grow up to become an impactful person in society, a man or a woman that will be devoid of all social vices.

"But what we have here today is people don't value life again. You can see the level of banditry, kidnappings, stealing, and armed robbery; these social vices are a result of poor home bringing. If you bring up a child in the fear of God, that child, even if he's poor, will fear evil and abhor things that are evil in the society.

"We have a scenario whereby, because of the way parents are bringing up their children, not giving attention to character, virtues, and moral values that should be instilled in the child, we are having these challenges." He added.

Meanwhile, he equally used the moment to wish her God's protection and preservation and prayed for longevity to enable her to enjoy the fruit of her children and grandchildren as well as thanked God for keeping her alive.

"I wish that God will keep her alive to also see the wonderful grandchildren that God has given to her to grow successful, which is a wish for every parent. I wish her good health and life, and that God will keep her, preserve her and give her good health." He prayed.

Earlier on, the members of the Mezie Edda Grassroots Movement for FON, led by its organising secretary, Hon. Patrick Okoro, extended their heartfelt congratulations to her, describing her attributes as worthy of emulation by every mother.

The group expressed deep appreciation for her unwavering commitment to the Ekumankama's royal family of Amangwu Edda, the church and the community, highlighting her significant role in elevating their family’s status as Ugoeze.

The Edo State House of Assembly has removed Hon Natasha Osawaru Irobosa of the the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as minority leader.

Osawaru was removed alongside Charity Aiguobarueghian, Majority Leader. However. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku and Maria Edeko, who are also members of the PDP still retained their positions as the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker respectively.

The assembly also removed Hon Yekini Idaiye, PDP, as Chief Whip of the house.

Daily Trust reports that the changes were as a result letter to the assembly by the state acting All Progressives Congress (APC)’s chairman, Jarret Tenebe following the PDP losing majority status in the assembly as a result of the defection of four of its lawmakers to the APC.

Speaker of the House who announced the change in the principal positions said they were replaced with Hon Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan, APC, Esan West as Majority Leader, Hon Addeh Emakhu Isibor, APC, Esan North-East I, and Hon Lecky Hussein Mustapha, APC, Etsako West I as Majority Leader, Deputy Leader and Chief Whip respectively.

He said PDP leadership in the state would also bring its list of nominees of principal officers to the House.

Agbebaku added that his position as the Speaker and that of the Deputy Speaker were not certain in the leadership change of the House.

> Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a ₦5 billion lawsuit against Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, accusing him of defamation over several alleged false statements made during media interviews in March 2025.

The suit, which was filed by Senator Natasha’s legal team led by M.J. Numa, SAN, highlights a series of defamatory comments made by Senator Nwaebonyi on national television platforms, including Channels Television and Arise News. The claimant’s legal team is seeking multiple declarations from the court, asserting that the statements were malicious, false, and damaging to her public image.

One of the central accusations stems from an interview with Senator Nwaebonyi on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on March 6, 2025, where he allegedly referred to Senator Natasha as a “gold digger,” “habitual liar,” and “habitual blackmailer.” In the legal documents, Senator Natasha’s lawyers argue, “These statements were not only false but intended to tarnish her public image and reputation.”

The lawsuit also refers to another interview on Arise News TV, aired on March 3, 2025, where Senator Nwaebonyi allegedly claimed that Senator Natasha was “a mother of six from different men.” Her legal team contends that such remarks were “deliberately made to injure her character and diminish her credibility,” particularly as a public figure and a female politician.

Furthermore, the lawsuit includes videos published on YouTube, particularly one from News Central TV on March 27, 2025. In this clip, Senator Nwaebonyi allegedly stated that Senator Natasha’s marriage was a product of blackmail and that she had once demanded ₦10 billion from her husband. The same video also reportedly contained accusations that she had falsely alleged sexual harassment against a former presidential aide.

“These defamatory statements have since caused the Claimant considerable distress, reputational harm, embarrassment, and emotional distress,” the writ declares. 

Senator Natasha is now seeking ₦5 billion in damages, claiming that these actions have severely damaged her reputation and public standing.

In addition to the financial compensation, Senator Natasha is demanding a retraction of the defamatory statements and an apology in national newspapers and other media outlets within seven days of the court’s judgment. 

The claimant is also seeking an order of perpetual injunction to prevent the defendant and his associates from publishing further defamatory comments.

The court proceedings have not yet been assigned a hearing date, as the defendant is expected to respond within 21 days from the date of service of the writ.

Controversial journalist Kemi Olunloyo has publicly rejected condolence messages following her father’s demise , revealing a traumatic childhood marked by emotional and physical torture, alleged occult practices, and infidelity that tore her family apart.

In a video surfaced on her Facebook, Kemi Olunloyo dismissed sympathisers, directing them to her late father’s Facebook page instead. She recounted years of pain, accusing the respected elderstatesman of tearing and ravaging their family through abuse, deception, and reckless decisions that led to a horrific incident that paralyzed her younger brother.

Kemi Olunloyo claimed she had a traumatic childhood experience when her father’s selfishness led to her been molested sexually while her brother was paralyzed . At 13, Olunloyo recounted, her family was set to travel to Lagos, but her father delayed them for hours, claiming he was at work. Her mother warned against the late trip, but he insisted.

Years later, Olunloyo discovered her father’s delay that day was due to an affair. “He lied. He was sleeping with his mistress while we waited,” she said, her voice laced with bitterness. “My assault all of it was his fault.”

Declaring she would never forgive him, Olunloyo made it clear she felt no grief over his passing. “I am not mourning. Send your condolences to his Facebook if you want. I’m still healing from the trauma he caused.”Kemi lamented.

> The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of 11 victims and the arrest of three individuals involved in operating a baby factory in the Ijegun area of the state.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday at the state police command, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the illegal operation was uncovered on April 5, 2025, following a tip-off. Hundeyin said the police carried out a raid on the factory and apprehended three persons including the facility operator, Mariam Vincent, 35, along with two accomplices, Orie Ruth, 23, and Ujunwa Ifeanyi, 18.

Explaining further, he said that during the raid, officers were able to rescue several victims, including three children aged seven, five, and two.

Seven women and three children, all held against their will, were rescued during the operation. The adult victims have been identified as Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26). The children rescued were Destiny, a 7-year-old boy; Miracle, a 5-year-old girl; and Success, a 2-year-old girl.

He mentioned that the rescued individuals are currently receiving appropriate care and support.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to abducting their victims from different parts of the state for the purpose of running a baby factory.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged accordingly.

The Grave Mistake Of The Raven

As exclusively predicted by The PUNCH, the Dangote refinery has informed marketers and its customers of a downward review of its ex-gantry loading cost to N865 per litre.

The new price is a reduction of N15 from N880 per litre sold by the facility on Wednesday.

Recall that marketers had exclusively informed our correspondent that the 650,000 barrels refinery was anticipated to lower its petrol loading costs by the end of this week, further contributing to the reduction in fuel prices.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chinedu Ukadike, reassured the public of the price drop while commenting on the Federal Executive Council’s directive regarding the naira-for-crude agreement.

On Wednesday, the Federal Executive Council, after an initial delay, directed the full implementation of the suspended Naira-for-Crude agreement with local refiners.

It said the initiative with local refineries is not a temporary measure but a “key policy directive designed to support sustainable local refining.”

The Ministry of Finance disclosed this in a statement published on its official X handle titled, “Update on the Crude and Refined Product Sales in Naira Initiative.” The statement was released following a meeting on Tuesday between the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and representatives from Dangote Refinery, a major beneficiary of the agreement, to review progress and address ongoing implementation matters.

The committee said the policy is not temporary but a long-term plan to cut Nigeria’s dependence on foreign exchange for petroleum.

It added that the initiative is not a temporary or time-bound intervention but a key policy directive designed to support sustainable local refining and bolster energy security.

The statement read, “The Technical Sub-Committee on the Crude and Refined Product Sales in Naira initiative convened an update meeting on Tuesday to review progress and address ongoing implementation matters.

“The stakeholders reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to the full implementation of this strategic initiative, as directed by the Federal Executive Council.

“Thus, the Crude and Refined Product Sales in Naira initiative is not a temporary or time-bound intervention, but a key policy directive designed to support sustainable local refining, bolster energy security, and reduce reliance on foreign exchange in the domestic petroleum market.”
