Fact Check: Nigeria’s Passport Did Not Fall From 90th to 181st in One Ranking
Claims that Nigeria’s passport fell from 90th to 181st compare two different passport-ranking systems. Henley’s July 2026 index placed Nigeria 90th with access to 44 destinations, while IziVisas’ October ranking used a separate methodology and destination database. IziVisas lists Nigeria with 24 visa-free destinations, 16 visa-on-arrival destinations and 43 e-visa destinations. Under its stated African ranking method, Nigeria’s score is 40 for visa-free and visa-on-arrival access, placing it 47th among 54 African countries. Nigeria’s passport mobility remains a serious concern, but the figures do not prove that Nigeria lost visa-free access to 20 countries or dropped 91 places in a single index. Any such claim should identify the countries involved and show actual visa-policy changes.
