Lens University Students Debate Intellectualism and Social Media Attention
Students of the Faculty of Communications and Media Studies at Lens University, Ilemona, held a two-day debate on whether intellectual discourse deserves the level of attention generated by the “Olodo Uprising” on social media. Teams from Journalism and Media Studies, Mass Communication, Film and Multimedia Production, and Library and Information Science took part in the contest at the Faculty of Law Auditorium. The Department of Journalism and Media Studies emerged overall winner. Speakers at the event urged students to verify information before sharing it online, stressing the need to fight misinformation and promote critical thinking. Participants argued that intellectual engagement deserves greater visibility because it supports education, public discourse and nation-building.
