The Kogi State Police Command has arrested Jacob Irewa for allegedly setting his wife, Berida Irawo, ablaze after a domestic dispute in Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja. Police said the incident occurred at about 8:30pm on August 14, 2026. The victim had allegedly burnt some of her husband’s unused clothes without his permission. Irewa allegedly threatened her, took petrol from his motorcycle and set her on fire. Irawo survived and is receiving treatment at Honey Gold Hospital in Felele. Police said the suspect admitted to the act in his statement and will be prosecuted after investigations are completed. The Commissioner of Police condemned the attack and urged residents to settle disagreements through lawful means rather than violence.

The allegation is deeply disturbing, especially because a domestic dispute reportedly ended with someone being set ablaze.

Anyone facing threats at home should involve trusted relatives, community leaders, or the police early, rather than waiting for conflict to worsen.
