Cheng I-ching Alleges Sexual Assault by Security Guard at London World Team Championships

Cheng I-ching, Taiwan’s top table tennis player, says she was sexually assaulted by a security guard at a London venue before her World Team Championships match. She alleges the guard touched her inappropriately during metal detection. In an Instagram post, Cheng spoke out for female athletes worldwide. She highlighted the physical and mental pressures sportswomen face and called for serious protection of their human rights. The incident reportedly caused Cheng such distress that she was withdrawn from her team for the game. The International Table Tennis Federation urged that security checks be carried out professionally and appropriately. The Taiwan Table Tennis Federation confirmed the guard has been removed from duty while investigations continue.
