Civil Society Alleges Frame-Up in Ajiran Murder Case, Calls for Independent Judicial Review

A coalition of civil society organisations has urged an independent judicial review of the investigation into the killings of Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Ademola Akinloye in Ajiran, Lagos. They claim evidence was manipulated to implicate Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi while shielding the true perpetrators. According to the group, initial video-recorded interrogations of suspects Yusuf Ismaila (“Bariga”) and Safiu Fatai (“Fabo”) made no mention of Akanbi. Travel records also show he was abroad during both killings. The coalition alleges later interrogations were designed to force a false link to him and that a land dispute motivated the framing. The activists highlighted questions around missing autopsy reports, the handling of a victim’s phone and the sale of his farmland. They dismissed reports of Akanbi’s escape, saying he remains under court-ordered medical supervision. The coalition is calling on the Inspector-General of Police to set up an independent panel and for the Police Service Commission to probe Assistant Inspector-General Moshood Jimoh’s role.
