Ireland Beat Israel 3-0 After Pre-Match Gesture Over Gaza Conflict
Republic of Ireland players did not take part in the customary pre-match handshake with Israel before their UEFA Nations League fixture in Hungary. The Irish squad also bowed their heads during Israel’s national anthem and wore black armbands to recognise lives lost in the Gaza conflict. The match went ahead after the Ireland squad reportedly voted to fulfil the fixture despite calls for a boycott. Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu withdrew, saying he did not believe it was right to take part. Ireland won 3-0, with Troy Parrott, Adam Idah and Jack Moylan scoring. Parrott made a heart gesture after his goal, while Moylan kissed his black armband during his celebration.
