Civil Society Group Rejects Alleged UNIOSUN VC Tenure Extension, Threatens Protest

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance has condemned the alleged extension of the UNIOSUN Vice-Chancellor’s tenure, describing it as unlawful and a threat to university autonomy. The group argued that any change to the VC’s tenure must follow the university’s establishment law and relevant regulations. It warned that UNIOSUN should not be subjected to political considerations or personal discretion. The coalition urged the Osun State Government to reverse any extension made outside due process. It also warned against amending the law merely to validate an alleged unlawful decision. It said it could mobilise students, staff unions, academics and civil society groups for protests at the Osun State House of Assembly and the university if the matter is not addressed.
