Opinion: Coastal Highway Questions and Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign Absence
I believe the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has raised serious questions about planning, cost, procurement and environmental assessments. The project has displaced businesses and communities, while changes to its route and scope have fuelled concerns about accountability. I argue that the Federal Government and National Assembly should provide clear answers on the project’s funding, technical design, approvals and projected final cost. Nigerians deserve to know how decisions were made and whether public funds are being properly protected. I also see the highway controversy as part of a wider political test for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election. His decision to rely heavily on party leaders for campaign visibility, rather than personally engaging voters across more states, may deepen questions about his record in office.
