I Escaped a Controlling Relationship, Then Dated a Man Who Lied About Everything

After two damaging relationships, I have chosen to step away from dating and focus on healing. My first boyfriend became controlling while we lived together during the COVID lockdown. He monitored my movements, isolated me from friends and used threats of self-harm to pull me back after I left. After moving to another state and joining a writing club, I met someone who seemed kind, emotionally aware and supportive. But I later discovered that he had lied about his past relationship, family, school and even a cousin he claimed had died. Both experiences taught me that words alone are not enough. I am learning to trust actions, take my time and avoid entering relationships before I have fully healed.
