It combines “Ce” from Cecilia, the mother, and “Maluk” from Malukwuo, the father. The idea is rooted in justice and honour. In many naming traditions, a mother’s name may disappear after marriage despite her contribution to the family. Cemaluk seeks to preserve the mother’s identity while giving equal recognition to the father’s role. It also serves as a genealogical marker. Used alongside the wider family surname, it can help descendants trace both parental roots across generations. To me, Cemaluk is more than a name.
