Suspected Herdsmen Kill Nine, Burn Homes in Benue Community
In a pre-dawn raid on Saturday, over 50 suspected armed herdsmen attacked Agena community in Mbalom, Gwer East LGA of Benue State. They killed at least nine people and set houses, the market and food barns ablaze. The gunmen struck around 5am while residents slept. As people tried to flee, the attackers opened fire. One person was injured and many are still missing. A similar assault in April 2018 claimed 19 lives, including two Catholic priests. Local authorities have recovered nine bodies so far and begun search-and-rescue operations. Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the violence as barbaric. Security forces have been deployed to prevent further attacks and ensure those responsible face justice.
