Report Alleges Unresolved Weather and Visibility Equipment Issues at Anambra Airport
An investigative report has raised concerns about the condition of weather-monitoring and visibility equipment at Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport, Umueri. The allegations include weather radar systems said to require servicing, an uninstalled ceilometer and a transmissometer reportedly operating below optimal capacity. The report also alleges that maintenance concerns were brought to airport management without a satisfactory response. These claims have not been independently confirmed by the Anambra State Government, airport management, NiMet or other aviation regulators. It calls for an independent technical audit of meteorological equipment, runway lighting, power systems, maintenance records and backup safety arrangements. The audit, if conducted, could clarify the airport’s compliance with aviation safety requirements and address public concerns.
