Oyo Gov Makinde: Over 200 Amotekun Officers Killed in Fight Against Insecurity
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed that more than 200 Amotekun operatives have lost their lives battling insecurity in the state. He made the disclosure during a visit to families of pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in the Oriire area of Ogbomoso on May 15. The governor urged federal, state and local governments to unite in efforts to rescue the victims and warned against blaming one another. Makinde expressed deep sympathy for the fallen officers and promised the government would deploy every available resource to end the bloodshed. He acknowledged residents’ frustration over rising crime but stressed that banning Okada would not solve the problem. Recalling that the Amotekun Corps was established in January 2020 by the six South-West states as a stop-gap for state police, Makinde urged the federal government to stop giving Nigerians false hope and move swiftly on true police reform.
