Nollywood Has the Talent—Why Are Strong Stories Still So Inconsistent?
Nollywood has no shortage of skilled actors, ambitious directors and better production quality. Yet many films with strong casts and polished visuals still lose momentum through rushed endings, weak subplots and dialogue that explains too much instead of showing it. A major problem is the pressure to produce quickly. When scripts move from early drafts to filming without enough table reads, rewrites or story editing, avoidable plot holes and uneven character arcs make it to the screen. Writers also need fairer pay, stronger credits and more support to develop their work properly. The industry can improve consistency by investing in longer script-development periods, story consultants and more original ideas beyond familiar formulas. Nollywood already has the creative talent; stronger systems for writing could help more films match their visual and acting potential.
