Boko Haram Used Keke NAPEP to Plant Maiduguri Bombs, Senator Ndume Says
Senator Ali Ndume says recent suicide bombings in Maiduguri were carried out using commercial tricycles, known as Keke NAPEP. The attacks during Ramadan claimed at least 23 lives and injured over 100. The explosions struck crowded areas including the Post Office zone, Monday Market and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. Ndume told a national TV programme that insurgents rely on swift hit-and-run strikes and gather intelligence from informants. He warned more explosives or attackers could still be inside the city. He blamed the threat on inadequate intelligence gathering. He also condemned the terrorists’ boldness on social media. They now record and share footage of their operations online. He urged security agencies to monitor these communications as closely as those of ordinary citizens.
