Senator Onawo Quits ADC, Joins APM Over Internal Disputes
Senator Ogoshi Onawo of Nasarawa South formally defected from the African Democratic Congress to the Allied Peoples Movement. His letter, read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Deputy Senate President, cited ongoing legal battles and structural challenges in his former party. Onawo’s resignation took effect on June 15 after consultations with constituents and stakeholders. He said the move would give him the cohesion and support needed to pursue his legislative mandate and thanked supporters for their trust. ADC’s Senator Aminu Tambuwal acknowledged Onawo’s right to freedom of association and wished him well. Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau noted early defections from ADC, drawing a reminder to remain impartial when presiding over Senate sessions.
