Kogi Vigilantes Allegedly Torture and Kill Mentally Unstable University Student
A local vigilante group on the Nana College of Health campus in Ibana Okpo, Kogi State, is accused of beating and fatally shooting a final-year student of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba. The victim, Andrew Amehson Aziko, was reportedly mentally unstable. Eyewitness footage shows him struck with batons and then shot multiple times in the head, abdomen and back. This marks the second alleged extrajudicial killing in Olamaboro Local Government Area in two months. Former council secretary Danjuma Onoja has called on the local government chairman to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. The student’s remains are now in the morgue pending formal identification. Andrew had been taken home for mental health care after escaping a rehabilitation centre. Family and neighbours say he had no criminal record or history of violence. Relatives describe the killing as barbaric and say the college authorities have yet to visit them or offer any explanation.
