I thought Damilola and I would be best friends for life. We became close at university, and I stood by her through difficult moments. But after she began dating her husband, I started feeling pushed aside. I was not invited to celebrations for her new car or her engagement. I watched the proposal online while other friends, including people we both knew, were there. I still supported her traditional wedding and hoped our friendship could recover. The final blow came when she casually invited me to her wedding without asking me to be part of it. I chose not to attend, and her brief response made me realise I had been holding on to a friendship that no longer meant the same to both of us.
