She said she heard a loud sound around 1 a.m. but initially thought it came from cats in the compound. Residents later discovered that part of the house had allegedly been built over a soakaway. Some belongings, including a phone, reportedly fell into the pit. She questioned the building’s safety and accused the landlord of putting rent collection ahead of proper property maintenance.
