Five Nollywood Plot Tropes Viewers Want Retired
Nollywood has taken Nigerian stories to audiences around the world, but some familiar plot devices still appear too often. From the permanently wicked stepmother to the village doctor who cures every illness, these shortcuts can make new films feel predictable. The rich man-poor girl romance, scheming in-laws and convenient amnesia are also due for fresher treatment. These storylines can work when writers add depth, believable motivations and real consequences, but repetition has turned many of them into clichés. Nollywood does not need to lose its melodrama or entertainment value. Films with layered characters and stronger scripts have shown that audiences are ready for stories that reflect the complexity of Nigerian life.
