PFN President Urges INEC Neutrality and Religious Balance Ahead of 2027

Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria President Bishop Wale Oke has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain impartial ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy depends on an electoral body that does not take sides in partisan politics. Speaking at a church convention in Akure, Ondo State, Oke also urged politicians to avoid ethnic and religious considerations when choosing leaders. He argued that competence should come first, while both major faiths should feel fairly represented in government. The cleric condemned kidnapping, school abductions, killings and other violence carried out in the name of religion. He called on the Federal Government and religious communities to identify and confront extremists, stressing that religious conversion should be by persuasion, not violence. Oke also said church titles such as Senior Pastor and Archbishop can serve administrative purposes as ministries grow, even where such titles are not explicitly stated in the Bible.
