Fiji Court Cocaine Evidence Replaced With Flour as Police Probe Vault Theft

Police in Fiji are investigating the disappearance of nearly 40 kilograms of cocaine kept as evidence at the Suva High Court. Authorities said the drugs were replaced with counterfeit substances, believed to include flour. The cocaine had been seized in a 2019 case involving a Fiji-Canadian man who was later convicted of unlawful possession. It remained in the court vault while appeals were being heard. A September 15 inspection found seven of 39 cocaine bars missing, and further forensic tests showed none of the remaining exhibits contained cocaine. Police have identified six judiciary employees as persons of interest and are reviewing access to the vault. Officers are also checking other court exhibits, including seized cash, as officials review security procedures at the High Court.
