NANS Students Threaten Peaceful Picket of South African Firms After Xenophobic Killings
The National Association of Nigerian Students (South-West Zone D) has vowed to stage peaceful protests and picket South African businesses in Nigeria. The move follows reports of renewed xenophobic attacks in South Africa that claimed the lives of two Nigerians. Zone coordinator Kayode Adeyemo condemned the violence as a recurring pattern of hostility. He said it is unacceptable that Nigerians must live in fear abroad while South African companies thrive at home. NANS is mobilising its members for mass advocacy and is calling on the South African government to protect foreign nationals and ensure justice for victims. The student body remains open to dialogue with business representatives, diplomats, and other stakeholders. Adeyemo warned that Nigerian students will not remain passive while the safety and dignity of their compatriots are threatened. "This is a moment for accountability, responsibility and decisive action," he declared.
