Osun Poll: APC and Accord Accused of Spending Over ₦100bn on Campaigns and Vote Buying
APC and Accord officials and insiders have made competing allegations over the scale of spending during the August 15 Osun governorship election. The reported expenses allegedly covered campaign materials, party agents, canvassers, security personnel and electoral officials across the state. Sources claimed that both parties deployed billions of naira for voter inducement and election logistics, far above the ₦3bn campaign-spending limit for governorship candidates under the Electoral Act. Some accounts alleged that voters received between ₦20,000 and ₦80,000 in certain polling units. APC officials denied the allegations and challenged their accusers to provide evidence. Accord also denied buying votes, while election observer Yiaga Africa said any party found to have exceeded legal spending limits or engaged in vote buying should be prosecuted.
