Think Carefully Before Referring Someone for a Job
Finding a job is difficult, and helping someone get an opportunity can be a kind thing to do. However, it is important to consider a person’s character before putting your name on the line for them. A poor referral can damage my reputation at work if the person is dishonest, unreliable or creates problems for colleagues. Sometimes, the same person may become hostile or disloyal after receiving help. I should not stop helping people altogether, but I need to be careful. Before recommending anyone for a role, I should be confident that they are responsible and unlikely to misuse the opportunity.
