Wike Orders Demolition of Illegal Buildings on Katampe Diplomatic Plot, Vows Crackdown on Land Grabbers
The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has ordered the demolition of illegal structures on a diplomatic plot in Katampe Extension. He said land grabbing will not be tolerated in Abuja. The plot was allocated in 2008 for the residential use of 10 embassies: Japan, Thailand, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Syria, Somalia, Serbia and Montenegro, Austria, Senegal, and the Palestine Liberation Organization. According to Wike, a developer encroached on the land without FCTA approval. “This land grabbing must stop,” he said. Wike said the level of investment will not deter enforcement. He disclosed that criminal charges are being pursued against the developer. One suspect, Alhaji Kabiru Sahara, has been apprehended and will be charged in court. “Bring down every building standing on this land,” Wike directed, adding that embassies will be notified that the Administration has taken over the plot. Beyond enforcement, Wike inspected key infrastructure projects across the city and suburbs. He said many are on track for handover by May 2026, ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third-year-in-office celebrations.
